POTSDAM – Shoppers here Saturday will have the chance to enter for upcoming weekly drawings for Potsdam Chamber of Commerce gift certificates.

The chamber and local businesses are staging Small Business Saturday and, in addition to the drawing entries, businesses will offer extras to shoppers that day, including canvas bags and other freebies.

When customers make a purchase at participating locations, they will be entered into the weekly drawings for Potsdam Chamber gift certificates. The certificates can be used in more than 100 locations in Potsdam.

The weekly drawings will start with a $25 gift certificate, then $50, then $75 and finally $100. All entries from all weeks will be combined for the Grand Prize drawing on Jan. 2. The grand prize includes items and gift cards from all the participating locations, a $300 total value.

Shoppers can enter the drawings once at each participating location per day with purchases from Nov. 25 to Dec. 31.

Participating businesses include:

3 Bears Bakery & Café, America's Own Rent to Own, Argent's Jewelry & Who Knows What, Art Market, Bicknell Appliance & Home Interiors, Bicknell Building Supply, Brick & Mortar Music, C.O.R.C Thrift Store, Chilly Delight, Downtown Sports & Toys, First Crush, Grace Boutique; and

Maple Run Emporium, Mia Margaret, MVP Sports, Northern Ice & Dance, Potsdam Agway, Potsdam Food Co-op, Potsdam Public Library, Sears Hometown Store, Soul Waffle, St. Lawrence Supply, Summerhaven Pool & Hearth, Tactics, The Front Porch, Today's Hair & Day Spa, University Bookstore, and Willow Tree Florist.

If you spend $100 at a local business, roughly $68 stays in your local economy, said a chamber press release. If you spend that same at a large business, only $43 stays in the local economy (Source: Civic Economics Study in Grand Rapids, Michigan).
