CANTON — St. Lawrence University will celebrate the Year of the Rooster with a Chinese New Year Gala starting at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in Sullivan Student Center Winston Room. The event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Chinese Student Union and the Center for International and Intercultural Studies, the fifth-annual New Year’s event will feature food, traditional and modern Chinese dance, games, a raffle, and the opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture.
There also will be information about St. Lawrence’s study abroad offerings in China and Project Pengyou, a U.S.-China leadership training summit for college students.
The new year will welcome in the Year of the Rooster, which in the Chinese zodiac represents those who are witty, intelligent and have a magnetic personality.
People born in 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005 and 2017 are considered to have been born in the year of the rooster.
