CANTON -- The Department of Performance and Communication Arts at St. Lawrence University announced its theatre schedule for 2016-17.
This year, the department is including its first musical since 1995, due in part to a donation from a loyal Laurentian and support from St. Lawrence’s Department of Music.
“The students and faculty have been asking about musicals for many years,” said Jennifer Thomas, assistant professor of performance and communication arts. “There are definitely many challenges that come with the art form, but the rewards are wonderful as well. I am grateful for the chance to ‘revive’ the musical at St. Lawrence University.”
The calendar is as follows: “Legally Blonde, The Musical;” music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Neil Benjamin, and book by Heather Hach; 8 p.m.; Nov. 3 to 5 and again Nov. 10 to 12; 2 p.m. Nov. 6 and 13. Fall dance concert; preview, Dec. 1; performance Dec. 2 and 3. “Everyman;” adaptation by Carol Ann Duffy; 8 p.m.; April 5 to 8. Spring dance concert; preview; April 27; performance April 28 to 29.
