CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s annual Holiday Open House will take place Dec. 4 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Silas Wright House, 3 East Main St., with music, refreshments and family history.
The Canton Garden Club provides fresh greens, floral arrangements, and early American Christmas tree decorations like gingerbread, dried apples, and lace.
The open house will include live seasonal music provided by a variety of local musical talent including the Canton Central School Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Kimberly Busch; the Acapella North Chorus; and the ever-popular Noteworthy Handbell Choir.
The historical association will open its archives for free to anyone interested in researching their family history in St. Lawrence County. Volunteers and experts will be available to assist in finding your family’s history in this region.
The area’s early settlers came from Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut; later settlers came from Quebec and Europe. The archives includes family files with stories, genealogies, local histories, burial records, maps with property owners from the nineteenth century, and thousands of photographs and postcards
