POTSDAM – Inside the Ancestral Current, an exhibit of paintings by Esthela Calderón, opens Friday, April 21, from 5-7 p.m. at the SLC Arts Gallery, 18 Elm St.
In addition to a meet-and-greet with Calderón, the event will include live music and a bi-lingual poetry reading.
Esthela Calderón of Canton is the director of the Promotora Cultural Leonesa in León, Nicaragua, and an adjunct instructor of Spanish at St. Lawrence University. She is known as a poet; this art exhibit presents her abstract paintings.
Starting at 5:30 p.m., Scott Shipley will perform Earth-day themed-songs. Shipley is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Canton. Following Shipley's performance, Esthela Calderón will present a bilingual reading of poems she wrote about regional plants and their traditional uses. Steven White, modern languages professor at St. Lawrence University, will provide one of the voices in the bilingual poetry reading.
This event is free and open to everyone, and is wheelchair accessible.
Visitors are encouraged to drop in any time during the two-hour event.
Sales of Calderón’s paintings benefit the artist and SLC Arts.
This exhibit will be on display at the gallery through May 26.
The gallery is open during Town Hall business hours, Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
