SLC Arts Council to offer series of yoga classes in January

POTSDAM -- The St. Lawrence County Arts Council will be offering a rich series of Yoga classes in January.

Classes will meet in the downtown Potsdam Snell Hall Dance Studio, room 230. Pre-registration is required. Call the Arts Council at 265-6860 or visit www.slcartscouncil.org for more information.

For each Yoga class, students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat, small towel, a light blanket or shawl, a bottle of water and a yoga cushion if desired.

• Kundalini Yoga with Gurumantra Kaur will meet on Tuesdays Jan. 4 through Feb. 8 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. and on Fridays, Jan. 7 through Feb. 11, 8 to 9:30 a.m. Kundalini is simple yet vigorous techniques for everyone. It includes breath, yoga postures, sound, chanting and meditation. $66 for 6 weeks.

• Managing Stress through Yoga with Monique Christensen will continue on Saturdays, Jan. 8 to Feb. 26, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Intended to increase balance, flexibility, stamina, strength and mental focus, relieves stress, balance body systems and help you relax. $88 for 8 weeks.

• Yoga for Your Health with Terry de la Vega will starts again on Wednesdays, Jan. 19, running through Feb. 23, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Kripalu Yoga is excellent for those new to yoga, those who have practiced in the past and want to get back to yoga, and anyone who prefers a gentle, meditative type of class; focusing on breathing deeply, releasing tension, building strength and balance, posture alignment, with modifications as needed, and meditation. $66 for 6 weeks.
