SLC Arts Council to host reception for 'Mythical Winged Artists' Saturday

POTSDAM – The St. Lawrence County Arts Council will hold the opening reception for “Mythical Winged Artists,” an exhibit of works by the artists of Winged Camel Metalworks in Colton and Winged Bull Studio in Clayton Saturday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 51 Market St.

In this new exhibit, the metal sculptures and jewelry of Mary Ann & Malcolm Owen share the gallery with the wood engravings and sculptures of Greg Lago.

Winged Camel Metalworks has been owned and operated by Malcolm and Mary Ann Owen since 1976.

Malcolm and Mary Ann design jewelry, clocks, sculptures, and other small household objects, created with copper, brass, gold, and sterling silver.

Many works are a collaborative effort, with Mary Ann creating the theme and layout of the pieces and Malcolm working on the mechanical aspects of production.

Both artists also create one-of-a-kind works independently. Mary Ann makes jewelry and small-scale sculptures, and Malcolm makes large sculptural and decorative pieces.

Winged Bull Studio is a print gallery, established by Greg Lago in 1988. He has been a printmaker and illustrator for over 30 years. Lago's images are a haunting mix of dark humor and illuminating truth.

The exhibit will be on display through January 22.
