POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital will host a silent auction of works donated by local artists Monday, Sept. 22 through Friday, Oct. 3 to raise funds for the Bruce C. Potter scholarship.
Art will be on display with sign-up bid sheets in the Ron Scott Lounge, just off the main lobby of the hospital on Lawrence Avenue from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. weekdays. Pieces range from wood and ceramic sculpture, to art-glass earrings, to framed and unframed paintings.
The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior or non-traditional learner from Northern New York who intends to pursue a healthcare-related degree and is awarded by the Northern Area Health Care Education Center (NAHEC).
It was named in memory of Potter, former president of CPH from 1987 to 2003. From 1977-1987 Potter served as CFO.
Potter was instrumental in overseeing growth in the hospital’s medical staff and leading the successful “Building on Excellence” campaign that resulted in a new OB/GYN unit known as The Birthplace, new ambulatory surgery wing, and conference rooms that have been used for numerous staff education as well as community outreach purposes, such as support groups and health promotion presentations
Those unable to visit the hospital to make a bid who would still like to donate to the scholarship fund, or for more info, contact Deborah Chase-Lauther at 261-5413.
