Several free events planned at Potsdam library

POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Public Library, 2 Park St., has the following events and workshops planned from Aug. 28-Sept. 9.

A mandala coloring group meets Aug. 28 and Sept. 4, from 5-8 p.m. Drop-in for part or all of this group coloring event for all ages. The library will supply colored pencils, crayons, pens, and pre-printed intricate coloring pages geared toward adults, featuring beautiful mandala patterns, flowers, architecture, etc.

Scanning Document Essentials will be held at the library’s Cleveland Computer Center Aug. 29, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Students will learn current imaging and scanning practices, how to prepare for a scanning project, incorporating record management principles and strategies, and the estimating cost of acquiring/maintaining imaging systems.

The next two meetings of the Wednesday Night Drop-in Chess Club will be Aug. 30 and Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. The public is invited to drop in for part or all of these casual chess meets. All experience levels welcome.

A board games group will meet at the library Aug. 31 and Sept. 7, at 5 p.m. The group is open to all ages. The library will supply some board games. Attendees are invited to bring their own.

An iPhone basics class takes place at the library’s Cleveland Computer Center Sept. 13 from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Participants will learn to use their iPhones and see how it can help organize their life. Bring the phone to class and get familiar with the applications that came with it, including the details of each app, why it’s important and what it can do to. An introduction to computers workshop will be held at the Cleveland Computer Center Sept. 6, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of PC computers, including creation of files and folders, how to save them and copy from one document to another. Class will be taught using Windows 10 and MS Office 2010. Participants should be comfortable using a mouse and the keyboard.
