Seven art organizations in St. Lawrence County to participate in 'Gallery Hop' Saturday

Seven arts organizations in St. Lawrence County will be part of the “Gallery Hop” Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The day-long event will feature exhibits and arts activities at scheduled 30-minute stops throughout the county.

The Gallery Hop is free, casual, and family-friendly.

Participating organizations include: the James F. Montpelier Gallery and Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg; The TAUNY Center, St. Lawrence County Historical Association, and Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University in Canton; and the Potsdam Public Museum and SLC Arts Gallery in Potsdam.

Scheduled stops on the hop are:

• In Ogdensburg, from 10:15-10:45 a.m., James F. Montpelier Gallery, art by K-12 students in Room 105, at OFA, 1100 State St., www.facebook.com/pg/ofagallery; and from 11-11:30 a.m., Frederic Remington Art Museum, 303 Washington St., 315-393-2425, scavenger hunts and shop sale, free admission.

• In Canton, from 1-1:30 p.m., TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., 315-386-4289, paintings by Loretta Lepkowski chronicling local history of life-long Tug Hill residents; from 1:45-2:15 p.m., St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 E. Main St., 315-386-8133, exhibit of World War I posters, historical dress-up costume pieces for kids; from 2:30-3 p.m., Richard F. Brush Art Gallery, SLU, 23 Romoda Dr., 315-229-5174, student-led tour of Akwesasne Artists Power ON! Exhibit.

• In Potsdam, from 3:30-4 p.m., Potsdam Public Museum, 2 Park St. #3, 315-265-6910, hands-on activities using drop spindles to make wool yarn and children’s looms to weave fabric; and from 4:15-4:45 p.m., SLC Arts Gallery, Potsdam Town Hall, 18 Elm St., 315-265-6860, indoor story walk of original watercolor illustrations from “Harriet’s Big Adventure,” children’s book by Glenn S. Guiles and Ray Whalen.
