POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam Geology Professor Emeritus Dr. Frank Revetta will offer a free educational series of seismology workshops again this fall.
The workshops are hands-on activities, allowing participants to use real seismic equipment and analyze seismograms of both local and distant earthquakes.
All are welcome to attend these free educational events.
Seismology workshops will be held every Tuesday at 1 p.m., in Stowell Hall Room 131.
Upcoming workshops include:
Oct. 24: "Plate Tectonic Theory and Basic Principles"
Oct. 31: "Are Earthquakes a Hazard in Northern New York? Papers on Massena, Goodnow and AuSable Quakes"
Nov. 7: "How Do We Detect Earthquakes? Vertical, Horizontal and Three-Component Seismometers"
Nov. 14: "Local Earthquakes: Western Quebec Seismic Zone"
Nov. 21: "Travel-Time Curves and Earth's Interior"
Nov. 28: "Seismogram Interpretation: Loma Prieta and Northridge Earthquakes"
Dec. 5: "Tsunami Questions"
