GOUVERNEUR -- Girls soccer players from Section X are invited to try out for a select U17 team to play in the Cobras FC Summer Classic and College Showcase in Rochester in July.
Current high school juniors or younger players for the showcase, which hosts multiple games against top players in the state and attracts college recruiters.
Tryouts are from 2 to 4 p.m. April 15 and 29 at Riverview Park, Gouverneur. Another date may be scheduled, if needed.
The team coaches will be working alongside college coaches from the area to train athletes for this highly competitive tournament.
Six to eight training sessions will be held Sundays in May, June and July in preparation for July 13-15 tournament.
Practices will be held in Gouverneur or at the four area colleges (SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Canton, Clarkson University, or St. Lawrence University). Scrimmages with other local teams may be held prior the tournament.
Athletes interested in trying out must contact either Coach Mark Martin, Gouverneur Varsity Girls Soccer and NNY Lightning coach at (315) 679-7773, or Coach Kassandra Robillard, Gouverneur JV Girls Soccer coach, or send a message to Sectionioselectsoccer@gmail.com for more info.
A short online application must be filled out in order to try out on the selected dates. This will allow the coaches to get to know the players before their tryout session.
The cost is $225 per player, which includes a club pass, insurance, tournament entry fee, uniforms, training with college coaches, and local scrimmages. Hotel for the tournament in Rochester is not included.
