POTSDAM -- The second annual Honey Harvest Hoedown & Pollinator Jamboree, a public celebration of bees and other pollinators with free demonstrations, honey-based food, music and films, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Stowell Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus.

The event is free and open to the public with coordination and sponsorship by the WISER Center, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Environmental Division and the Local Living Venture in partnership with the SUNY Potsdam Environmental Club and PACES Dining Services.

The events begin at 2 p.m. with a free viewing of various short films about the birds, bees, bats, beetles, butterflies and moths that help provide our food and enrich the natural world.

Following the films, from 3-5 p.m., there will be a round-robin of exhibitions including demonstration beehives, brief presentations by insect-lovers with microscopes, music by the Northern Southern Old Time Society Band, delicious honey-based food, a honey harvesting demonstration and more.

Costumed attendants will be on hand to guide visitors to the free parking lot next to the new Performing Arts Center. Lawn signs noting “Workshop Site” signs will also be posted.

This event is free of charge, child-friendly, and open to the pubic, though donations are welcomed to benefit Local Living Venture Pollinator Protection programming.

WISER Center events are always free for SUNY students and this program is made possible in part by funding from a grant by the Alcoa Foundation.
