The festival draws thousands of people to attend from all over the North Country and Canada.

With the theme Surfin’ the Seaway 2019 this year’s event will feature old festival favorites like the Wild West BBQ at the Frederic Remington Museum and the High School Battle of the Bands, with a few new surprises like the Ogdensburg’s Got Talent competition and a Surf Rock Jam.

Early highlights at this year’s festival will include Green Mountain Amusement Rides starting Friday, July 19, Founder’s Weekend July 20 and 21 at Lighthouse Point, Kid’s Fishing Derby and the Firefighter’s Kids’ Game at Morrisette Park.

The 59th Annual International Seaway Festival Wine and Craft Show will be held Saturday, July 20 10-4 p.m. and July 21 10-3 p.m. at the Lockwood Arena. The show will feature lots of giveaways and raffles as well as samples of wines from local vineyards. For more information about the wine and craft show call Michelle at 315-393-9274.

One of the festival’s new events this year, the Ogdensburg’s Got Talent competition, slated for July 23 at 6 p.m. on the main stage on Riverside Drive, will replace the karaoke event. Q102.9, PAC 98.7 and 96.7 YES FM are sponsoring the competition which features three categories, youth, high schooland adult. There will be a maximum of 10 entries per category. Entry fee to participate is $10. Participants will be accepted on a first come-first served basis from July 1-July 19.

Talent may be singing, dancing, comedy, magic, drama or other entertainment. Participants should plan on a 1 1/2 minute performances for the prelims and for the first evening’s performance.

Three people from each division will move on to the finals to perform on Friday night in the Greenbelt before main band Six Foot Midget takes the stage.

The Seaway Festival committee will again be selling buttons at local businesses for the annual Button Blitz drawing. This year’s button features a retro image of a VW surf bus and cost $2 each. There are 10 $50 prize buttons that will be sold. Winners will be posted on the festival’s Facebook page following the Seaway Valley Cruiser’s car show on July 28. The blitz is a major fundraiser for the festival. Proceeds will help pay for the parade and fireworks.
