OGDENSBURG -- A local craftsman is selling miniature sculptures made from the red oak doors of First Presbyterian Church.

Years of extreme North Country weather had taken their toll on the that for decades had been the focal point of the church’s Ford Street entrance. The time had come to replace to replace these doors.

The church contacted Ogdensburg resident and craftsman Don Kerr to see if he could fashion Christian crosses from the door wood to be sold to help pay for the door replacement and steeple repairs that were completed this summer.

Kerr worked during the summer constructing not only crosses, but a variety of other wooden items that were offered for sale to the congregation members after the new door dedication ceremony held on Sept. 18.

Known as the church with the red doors and the red has been preserved on many of the crosses and other articles.

Now members of the community can own a piece of local history when the crosses will be offered for sale during the church’s rummage sale on Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.
