POTSDAM – Saxophonist Dr. David Stambler will present a guest artist recital with a mix of contemporary and jazz works at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, in Snell Music Theatre, SUNY Potsdam.

Accompanied by pianist Hannah R. Gruber, an assistant professor of keyboard at Crane, Stambler will present "Five Portraits," a 2005 piece by Jonathan Leshnoff, as well as "Distances Within Me," a 1979 work by John Anthony Lennon. The concert will continue with the world premiere of Mark Lanz Weiser's six-movement work, "Moments Musicale."

Finally, Stambler will be joined by a small band consisting of M. Maxwell Howard on piano, Joe Goehle on bass and Daniel Rabinaw on percussion to perform jazz selections, which will be announced from the stage.

Stambler has performed with many orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony, the Annapolis Symphony, and the Bay Atlantic Symphony. He has also performed jazz with the likes of Rosemary Clooney, Natalie Cole and Smokey Robinson. Stambler's recitals are distinguished by a typically fresh approach to programming, combining neo-Romantic, contemporary and jazz works for saxophone.

This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
