OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Department will host its fourth Sandbar Classic Fishing Derby on July 20 as part of the 54th Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival.
Anglers can register for a species, including bass, walleye, northern pike and perch.
Each fisherman can submit one fish from each category for which they register. Each fish entered will be weighed and measured. Winners will be determined by weight. In case of a tie, the length will determine the winner. All weighing will take place at Hosmer’s Marina.
There will be a youth division for bass and perch. Registration for youth, 16 and under, is $5. Youth can register for the adult division. Prizes and awards will be provided by the family of the late Al O’Marah, who will also be sponsoring the Al O’Marah Lunker Award for the heaviest bass.
Fishing is on the St. Lawrence River only.
Registrations will be accepted prior to tournament at the Dobisky Visitor’s Center, 100 Riverside Ave., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the morning of the tournament at Hosmer’s Marina from 6 to 7 a.m. Cost is $5 per species, participants must sign up for at least two species.
The tournament will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., when the winners will be announced and prizes awarded.
The first 90 that sign-up will receive a free t-shirt. Winners from each division will receive a hat.
