GOUVERNEUR -- A Patriots Day commemoration of the “Shot Heard Round the World” and a NY SAFE Act protest at the VFW, 100 W. Main St. Saturday is welcoming everyone to join in.
Some local police officials, several politicians and people prominent in the local gun rights movement are expected to attend.
The gathering begins at 11 a.m. The firing of a cannon at noon will signal the start of the speeches. The cannon firing will commemorate the April 19, 1775 “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” in Lexington, Mass.
Organizers emphasize it is to be an open discussion and an educational event addressing issues concerning the controversial gun control legislation and how it affects New York State, citizens, law enforcement and businesses.
