POTSDAM -- The SUNY Potsdam geology department is hosting a Rock and Fossil Fair and Roadshow from 9 a.m. to noon on April 19 in the Timerman Hall exhibit area.
The public is welcome.
SUNY Potsdam geologists and paleontologists will be onhand to identify rocks, minerals and fossils visitors bring.
There will be a fossil dig where participants will sift through sand and find fossils to keep. There will also be a "mineral mine" with rocks and minerals up for grabs.
The event will feature a display of moon rocks on loan from NASA.
Visitors will be able to check out their rocks or minerals under the microscope, and choose additional specimens to start or augment their own collections. Children can compete in "dinosaur races" and other contests.
Other attractions at the fair include free face painting, exhibits, crafts and prizes.
