The concert is free. A goodwill offering will be taken to fund stained glass restoration at the church.
The concert will feature a wide variety of music, from classical to ragtime and jazz. Included will be compositions by Ralph Vaughn-Williams, Morley Calvert, jazz artist Billy Strayhorn and others. A central feature of the program will be “Brass Quintet No. 1” by Potsdam composer Dr. Arthur Frackenpohl, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
The Riverside Brass Quintet was founded in 2009, and each member has a connection to The Crane School of Music in Potsdam. John Schorge (trumpet), Roy Schaberg (horn), and Peter Popiel (tuba) are all retired Crane faculty on their respective instruments. Peter McCoy (trombone) is music education faculty at Crane, and Paul Buell (trumpet) is a graduate of the school.
