MADRID -- A reunion of former students, teachers, and friends of Country and One Room Schoolhouses will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Registration opens at 9:30. The Museum is located at 1755 State Hwy. 345 in the Town of Madrid.

Representatives of the Country School Association of America (CSAA) will be there to welcome everyone. Interest in preserving the history and memories of country schools has been heightened by the relocation of Schoolhouse No. 12 from the Town of LeRay and its restoration at the Museum completed in 2014. In 2017 it was designated a Landmark Schoolhouse by the CSAA and awarded a metal marker.

The reunion is open to all. Its main focus will be to recall, reflect and record the country school experience. Attendees are encouraged to bring their memorabilia with them to share with others. Children dressed in period clothing will be there to help with the program.

Attendance is free. Bring your own lunch or purchase a box lunch for $5 or a snack from a vendor on the grounds.

The Schoolhouse will be open with schoolmarms Judy Liscum, Carolyn Sheppard, and Pat Dominie to welcome you.

Other Museum buildings and exhibits will be open to attendees at the end of the program.

Call Judy at 315-386-3867 or Carolyn at 315-344-7067 so the reunion committee can assure seating.

The St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum is a 501(c)(3) education corporation, provisionally chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.

Information about the Museum is available at slpowermuseum.com. Contact the Museum at info@slpowermuseum.com or PO Box 400, Madrid 13660.

The Museum is open on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month during the summer from 10:00 until 2:00. Group visits are always welcome. Please call 315-322-8956 to schedule a time.
