CANTON -- Retired Navy Chief Ron Day will speak about the Civil War submarine H.L. Hunley at the next North Country Civil War Round Table on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 E. Main St.
A Confederate sub, the Hunley was the first submarine to sink a warship on February 17, 1864, although she was lost in the process, along with her crew.
The Hunley was raised from Charleston Harbor in 2000, and is now on view in North Charleston, S.C.
Attendees who own items with Civil War provenance are encouraged to bring them to the event for a “show and tell” session before the talk.
