CANTON -- For the 17th year, residents, students and church members will work together Oct. 24 to clean up parks, lawns of the elderly and church grounds throughout Canton.

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. Headquarters this year is at Eben Holden on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

The kick off for the event will be at 10 a.m. Community volunteers are asked to park in the parking lot next to the bookstore, or the parking lots across from the football field, J Lot.

Some of the service activities planned include yard work and maintenance for elderly homeowners, maintenance on the school playgrounds, cleanup at village parks, church grounds, litter and weeds in parking lots and other clean up activities at public sites in the village.

This is the seventeenth year of a community-wide Make a Difference Day.

Businesses can donate rakes, paper leaf bags, work gloves, or refreshments to the volunteer crews. Volunteers are encouraged to bring tools. To make a donation contact the Canton Chamber at 386-8255.

Any elderly person needing work done at their home or if you know of someone that does, contact us or call Campus Ministry at 386-2543 to be put on the list.

St. Mary’s Church, Canton Catholic Campus Ministry, SUNY Canton, St. Lawrence University, BOCES Community Connections and the Canton Chamber of Commerce sponsor the event.
