OGDENSBURG -- The 28th annual Holiday Gala: "Happy 150th Birthday, Fred!" will take place at the Frederic Remington Art Museum, 303 Washington St., on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 7 p.m. to midnight.

This year's Wild West theme was chosen to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Frederic Remington's birth. Remington created immensely popular western scenes that appeared in magazines such as Collier's, Harper's and The Century. He created at least 3,200 paintings and other flatworks. In 1895 he created his first and most popular bronze, Bronco Buster. Twenty-one other bronze creations would follow.

Music will be provided by Lester Gates from 7 to 9 p.m. and Double Axel from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Those attending will have a chance to win a Collier's print, The Grass Fire, painted in 1909 by Remington. The antique print, which retails at $2,195, came about through a 1903 contract between Remington and Collier's Magazine. Tickets are $10 each or five for $40. The drawing will be held during the gala.

Cost is $45 for museum members and $50 for non-members. Gala tickets and raffle tickets may be purchased online, by emailing info@fredericremington.org or by calling 393-2425.

The gala is a major fundraiser for the museum.

The museum will hold its open house on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 1 - 4 p.m. The public can enjoy beautiful decorations, free admission, refreshments, music and family activities. Children and their families are welcome and encouraged.

The museum is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, preserving and interpreting the art and archives of Remington, and contains an unmatched collection of his works.

The museum is open Oct. 15 through May 15, Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. and May 16 through Oct. 14, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
