RENSSELAER FALLS -- The Remington II downstream paddle race from Rensselaer Falls to Heuvelton is set for Sept. 5.

There are two rapids on the six-mile course where racers choose to paddle through or carry around. Often there is a group of paddlers who choose to paddle back to the starting line.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. on West Front Street in Rensselaer Falls, at the gazebo with the St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers banner.

Put in is at the discretion of the race director. It will depend on the water level: low water level means a slightly shorter course if they have to move the start downstream to get out of the rocks.

The recreation class start line will go at 10 a.m. with the racing class to follow at 10:10.

T-shirts will go to the first 30 people registered and medals to top three finishers in all classes.

Registrations is $15 for SLVP members, non-SLVP $20, youth $5, military SLVP members $10 and non-SLVP military $15.

After the race, people are welcome to visit the Village of Heuvelton Labor Day festivities.

St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers promote paddle sports for fitness and fun. For events, results and photos, visit www.slvpaddlers.org.
