POTSDAM -- Clarkson University will host a teaching and learning workshop about reflection in engineering education from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, March 27, in Clarkson's Moore House Lounge.

Brook Sattler of the Center for Engineering Teaching and Learning and the Department of Human Centered Design at the University of Washington will lead the workshop.

Reflection in Engineering Education is a free workshop with content and activities applicable to teaching and learning in fields outside of engineering as well. All interested educators and student affairs professionals are welcome to attend. Workshop participants are encouraged to come prepared to work on reflective activities relevant to their own educational venue.

The event will feature hands-on activities aimed at understanding reflection, its role in teaching and learning, and the creation of reflection activities to be used in class. Reflection -- giving meaning to prior experiences and determining how that meaning will guide future actions -- has long been recognized as important in higher education, though it has not been exploited extensively in the context of engineering education.

The workshop also includes an overview of Consortium to Promote Reflection in Engineering Education (CPREE), National Field Guide of Reflective Activities, and Local Promotion and Support for Reflective Activities.

A light breakfast and lunch are included.
