NORWOOD -- Registration for this summer’s third and last Norwood Duathlon of the season is at the Norwood Beach on Lake Shore Drive at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Before the race, at 5 p.m., the beach is being dedicated to longtime Norwood sports and recreation enthusiast Donald F. “Pete” LePage, who died last year at the age of 79 while competing in a duathlon in Ogdensburg.

“Most of what people see at the beach now is due to Pete’s work,” said Norwood Village Trustee Mike Zagrobelny, who said LePage had been Norwood’s recreation director and youth commissioner for years.

The race starts at 6:30 p.m. The race includes a 1.5-mile run, an 8-mile bike ride and a 1.5-mile run.

Individual and team registrations are accepted. Racers under 18 must have parental consent. The cost is $5 per race or $15 for the series.

Proceeds go to the John C. Purvis Memorial Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors. The race will only be cancelled in the event of a thunderstorm.
