CANTON -- SUNY Canton Student Activities has booked international reggae artist Gyptian as the headline act for its spring concert.

Doors will open for the Reggae Fest 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the Dana Hall Gymnasium, with the concert slated to start at 8 p.m.

Gyptian, originally from Jamaica, is best known for his songs "Wine Slow" and the crossover dancehall hit single "Hold Yuh," featuring Nicki Minaj. He has been a recording artist for more than a decade and has received numerous awards.

Kevin LeGare, a member of the College Activities Board and music programmer, said the concert “will be an exciting event that will help promote diversity.”

"We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to watch our talented student-artists and enjoy the sounds of Gyptian live in concert," he said.

SUNY Canton student musicians Zuberi Shury "Zoo Rass" and Shawn Small "Sma77s" will also perform at the concert. Both students are from Brooklyn. They will perform along with SUNY Canton's Untouchable Movement and SUNY Potsdam's Team NV dance teams.

Tickets for SUNY Canton students are $10 (with college ID) and $15 for the general public. Advance-sale tickets can be purchased at the SUNY Canton Student Activities Office in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center, and at Clarkson University, St. Lawrence University and SUNY Potsdam. Tickets will also be available at the door for $25.
