POTSDAM - The Northern New York Red Cross is encouraging boys and girls ages 11 to 15 who would like to start their own babysitting business to enroll in the Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Program being held Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its office, 73 Market St.

Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Program can teach you the skills to be a safe babysitter and smart business owner. When you enroll, you’ll learn how to tell when there is an emergency and when it’s a situation you can confidently handle on your own.

The class, taught by an authorized Red Cross Babysitter Training Instructor, will teach other great babysitting skills, such as:

Perform first aid and get professional medical help fast; identify common safety hazards and prevent injuries; make good responsible decisions; supervise infants through school age children; choose safe and age appropriate toys and games; perform basic care routines like diapering, feeding and dressing.

Babysitter’s Training also gives you excellent tips on how to run your own babysitting business. The program will show you how to create a resume, interview with prospective parents and keep track of your babysitting clients.

The cost is $85 for the course. Registration and pre-payment are required. Participants should bring a bag lunch and a Cabbage Patch size doll. The instructor is Ellen MacMaster.
