Record-breaking number of artists anticipated to attend Plein Air Festival July 30-Aug. 2 in Morristown

MORRISTOWN -- The Morristown Public Library, 200 Main St., will host the Plein Air Festival, with highlights to include a record-breaking number of artist visits, auctions, door prizes and food and wine, from July 30 through Aug. 2.

Artists from across the state and country will descend on Morristown for the four-day event to set up their easels around the Morristown area and paint the scenery. The paintings will be offered up for sale with the library receiving a percentage of the profits.

There will be opportunities for the general public to watch the artists paint, mingle with them at an evening social event and purchase their work at the closing silent auction and reception.

A record-breaking 33 artists are expected to attend with arrivals set for Thursday. Event organizers expect them to come from around New York state, and as far away as Maryland, Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. More than 44 door prizes, the most ever, will be given out to attendees.

Artists will begin to arrive on Thursday. Visits with the artists will begin Friday. Pick up one door prize ticket at each site.

Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Bella-Brooke Vineyard and Winery, 2989 County Route 6 in Hammond. Musical entertainment will be provided by Jourdan Irene and David Michael. Admission is free. Wine will be sold for $4 per glass.

Visits with artists continue Saturday. The annual book and bake sale at the library runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Gateway Museum will present the jazz trio A Fine Line in concert at 7 p.m. by the river at Bayside Park by the village docks. There will be opportunities to mingle with artists.

The event is capped of with a silent auction and reception at The Chippewa Bay Community Club from noon to 3 p.m. There is no admission fee to attend this event.

Each participating artist will submit up to three paintings for judging of awards and silent auction. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the afternoon. Refreshments will be available.

Live orchestra music featuring Kathy Sommer on violin and Kevin Irwin on guitar of the Yellow Moon Trio will entertain artists and collectors alike for a few hours during the auction.

First, second, third, People's Choice and Artist's Choice Awards will be announced at noon. The Juror of Awards this year is Sally Hartman.
