POTSDAM – “Rashomon,” a landmark film by acclaimed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, will be presented by Cinema 10 7:15 p.m. Monday, March 14 at the Roxy Theater, Main Street.
The film is about a violent crime told from the perspective of four different witnesses, whose versions of the truth do not match and therefore call into question the very notion of “truth.”
Rashomon is routinely credited with inventing many of the narrative and cinematic techniques that today are a standard part of the cinema. The film is a restored print of the 1950 original. It is not rated.
According to A.O. Scott of “The New York Times,” the “truth about Rashomon -- that it's one of the best movies ever -- is beyond dispute.”
The beautifully restored 35-mm print “should be required viewing for film fans,” said Brent McCabe of the “Baltimore City Paper.”
Tickets are $3.50 for students and senior citizens and $4.50 for general admission.
