POTSDAM -- Hilary Emerson Lay, Canton, will teach three professional development classes at the St. Lawrence County Arts Council. The series of workshops will focus on marketing and selling artwork and is designed for artists looking to increase their sales and web presence.
In “Etsy 101,” Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m., Lay will review the basics of Etsy, an e-commerce website. She will guide students through setting up a successful shop, making a treasury, photographing work, shipping and coming up faster on searches.
The Tuesday, Feb. 5 workshop, from 6 to 8 p.m., will help artists strengthen their web presence with websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Flickr in “Social Media Marketing for Artists.” She will also address how to make web marketing manageable with a busy schedule.
In “Thinking Outside the Gallery Walls,” Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m., Lay will discuss alternative ways to display and sell artwork including cafes, craft fairs, local businesses and home-based galleries.
Each class will be $20 or $50 for all three. Classes will meet in room 229 of downtown Snell Hall, 41 Elm St. To register contact the council at 265-6860 or www.slcartscouncil.org. For more information about Lay visit her website www.hilaryemersonlay.com.
