POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance is set to open a production of Sarah Ruhl's play, "Eurydice," in the Performing Arts Center's Proscenium Theater.

"Eurydice" will be presented from Tuesday, Oct. 20 through Saturday, Oct. 24, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m., ending with a matinee performance on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.

This fall mainstage production is directed by SUNY Potsdam alumnus and lecturer Don Mandigo, and features a talented student cast.

In "Eurydice," the Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl flexes her magical realism muscles, as she re-tells the classic myth of Orpheus from the point of view of Eurydice, his wife. The story focuses on Eurydice's choice to either return to Earth with Orpheus or to stay in the underworld with her father (a character created by the playwright). Ruhl has made several changes to the original myth's story line, to reflect a woman's perspectives and priorities.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for faculty, staff and students. To purchase tickets, contact the Community Performance Series Box Office at (315) 267-2277 or www.cpspotsdam.org, or visit the box office, located in the Performing Arts Center lobby.

From directing, choreographing, acting and dancing, to designing and technical work, theatre and dance are highly collaborative art forms at SUNY Potsdam. Students and professionals engage in creative problem solving, requiring the setting and meeting of long-term goals, and the analysis and understanding of movement and dramatic literature.
