MASSENA -- The New York Power Authority continues its “Free Friday Matinees” in May with showings of classic and contemporary movies at the admission-free Frank S. McCullough, Jr. Hawkins Point Visitors Center and Boat Launch in Massena.
The movies will be shown at 1:30 p.m. in the visitors’ center auditorium. Free popcorn will also be available.
The movie schedule is as follows:
• May 4: “We Bought a Zoo” (2011). Set in Southern California, a father moves his young family to the countryside to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo.
• May 11: “War Horse” (2011). This majestic World War I drama centers on a teen named Albert and his steadfast horse, Joey, whose faithful bond cannot be shaken —even when Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent off to France.
• May 18: “Rebecca” (1940). When a naive young woman marries a rich widower and settles in his gigantic mansion, she finds the memory of the first wife maintaining a grip on her husband and the servants.
• May 25: “A Warrior’s Heart” (2011). Unable to cope with his military father's sudden death in combat, quick-tempered teen, Conor, starts getting into serious trouble until his father's old friend challenges him to get his life on track and become a man.
Besides enjoying free movies, visitors can sample the array of hands-on exhibits at the Hawkins Point facility, which presents information on such subjects as electricity generation and NYPA’s St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project. Visitors are sure to also enjoy the panoramic views of the power dam from the facility.
