GOUVERNEUR – The First United Methodist Church, 34 Grove St., will stage a poverty simulation April 1, from 2-4:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
The simulation helps people learn about the day-to-day realities of life with a shortage of moneh and an abundance of stress.
Participants are assigned the role of a low-income family for four 15-minute “weeks.”
Other volunteers play the roles of community agencies and businesses.
Families must provide food, shelter and other basic necessities during the simulation, while interacting with various community resources.
Although it uses play money and fictional scenarios, the simulation is a role-play, not a game.
