POTSDAM -- Trinity Church, Maple Street, hosts a public open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 to introduce Trinity to the Potsdam Community.

Trinity Church on Fall Island has been part of the landscape of Potsdam for over 150 years, and people often comment on the beauty of the church and its stunning Tiffany stained glass windows. But many people in the community have never been inside the building, or know much about that goes on there.

Trinity is an Episcopal Church, and comes out of the tradition of the Church of England, or Anglican Church. Its worship follows the forms in the Book of Common Prayer, which retains traditional worship practices that go back to the origins of Christianity. Its beliefs are Biblical and Christ-centered.

There will be guided tours of the church’s historic interior, with its stained glass windows, majestic organ, and English gothic revival altar area. Members of the clergy will explain the “liturgical” style of worship that takes place.

There will be performances of organ music. In the adjoining parish hall there will be tables and displays where representatives can discuss various activities, committees and ministries such as spiritual counseling, community suppers, children’s programs, college ministry, Bible studies, and world mission. There will be a chance to meet members of the congregation. Refreshments will be available.
