Potsdam's Peak Moment TV to discuss preparedness on Monday, Tuesday

POTSDAM -- Preparedness is the theme for this month’s episodes of Peak Moment TV which airs on WCKN-TV, Time Warner Digital 30, Monday, Feb. 16 and Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.

Peak Moment TV host Janaia Donaldson talks with soccer mom and preparedness author Kathy Harrison. Kathy makes getting ready for the next big surprise like a storm, power outage, or economic downturn not only a good idea, but fun to do, as well.

The author of Just in Case: How to Be Self Sufficient When the Unexpected Happens, she gives practical tips on storing food without getting overwhelmed. Just in time for the peak weeks of harvest from your garden or CSA, she looks at dehydrating, canning, and root cellaring; finding and preserving local food, and buying food at discount. For Kathy, preparedness is an empowering, community activity.

Following her suggestions fits right in with daily life, rather than being big project you need to mount (and never get around to). She emphasizes not doing it alone — just like our ancestors did — share the work, share the tools, and have a good time being together.

Kathy says, “I have a ball preserving food with my friends!” And at the same time is making sure her kids can eat if storms knock out power or roads. See more at justincasebook.wordpress.com. One this is certain, the unexpected will happen, sooner or later, as the weather-related events of this year have already proven.

All the programs are available on the internet at www.wordpress.peakmoment.tv/conversations/ in both video and audio format.

More than 80 Peak Moment TV shows are now available on DVDs which can be borrowed from the Potsdam Public Library, 2 Park St., from the collection of shows purchased for broadcast locally.
