POTSDAM – A wide range of folk, funk, rock, blues, Americana, jazz and children’s music will be featured at this year’s Ives Park Concert Series.

The free series will run concerts every Saturday from Aug. 25 through Sept. 29.

Greg Cornell & the Cornell Brothers

Singer-songwriter Greg Cornell, a critically acclaimed roots musician, will perform Saturday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. His music courses through a muddy river of bluegrass, country, old-time music, and blues, conjuring the plaintive and unvarnished beauty of contemporary and classic roots artists such as Ralph Stanley, Blind Lemon Jefferson, John Prine, Gram Parsons, Levon Helm, Garcia and Grisman and Neil Young.

Currently, Cornell has a two-album body of work, “Deep Ocean Blues” and “Come On Home.”

Cornell has built a robust profile through a diverse set of shows. Over the past few years his band, The Cornell Brothers, has appeared at folk conferences and the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, toured New England and upstate New York, played festivals and gigged at the finest listening rooms in NYC.

Spazzare

Spazzare, a three-piece psychedelic grunge band from Ithaca, will perform Sept. 1 at 4 p.m.

The band is dedicated to writing exploratory original music and playing it at volumes you can feel on the inside (and the next day), says their website.

Spazzare is Dustin (Dusky) Underwood, John North and Jeff Asbrand. They are committed to the DIY culture and are proud to be part of Ithaca’s experimental music scene..

The Warp/The Weft

Also performing Sept. 1, but starting at 6 p.m., will be the The Warp/The Weft.

The group has been active since 2012 in and beyond New York’s Hudson River Valley, and has earned praise for its uniqueness, song-crafting, and “mystical swagger” (American Pancake) from casual and devoted listeners alike.

Blending traditional and avant-garde styles, the warmth of a good wool sweater and the sometimes-bleak cold of an upstate winter, the progressive folk and psychedelia that the band brings to bear (compared to Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull) is propelled by poetic lyrics and a “spirit-conjuring,” lilting tenor that “puts Murphy alongside Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg as one of the most captivating high-register voices in rock today” (Ron Hart, Chronogram).

2017’s “Mapping an Absence” on Admirable Traits Records introduces bassist Trevor Larcheveque, whose vocal harmonies help to anchor the band firmly in the chamber category.

Fenimore Blues

Saratoga Springs-based Fenimore Blues will perform Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.

The seven-piece band performs an eclectic mix of blues, R&B, and rock. The powerful vocals of Mary Beth Arcidiacono are backed by two guitarists and fellow musicians on keyboards, saxophone, bass, and drums, with band members doubling on harmonica and accordion.

This combination enables the group to perform a range of styles and a varied repertoire, drawing on music notables from Bonnie Raitt to Aretha Franklin, Buddy Guy to Van Morrison, the Neville Brothers to the Allman Brothers, the Rolling Stones to Imelda May, BB King to Nora Jones.

Miss Angie Beeler’s Kids Concert

The Miss Angie Beeler’s Kids Concert will be Sept. 15 from 3-4:30 p.m. Kids and their parents will learn the basics of rhythm, melody, harmony, deep listening, song structure, and coordination in a relaxed and fun, heartfelt journey through a mix of guided and exploratory singing, dancing, and instrument play. All are welcome, participation is a must.

Angela Marion

Later that evening, Sept. 15, Miss Angie Beeler will perform as Angela Marion starting at 6 p.m.

Marion’s music spans genres with ease and fluidity and sincerity, says the series website.

With deeply personal to fictional mermaid tales, Marion keeps the audience wondering and wanting more.

KTX

Potsdam-based KTX will bring their blend of pop, rock, funk, and R&B to the park on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.

KTX burst into the Potsdam music scene in the summer of 2010 and haven’t stopped since.

Their music gets crowds up and dancing from the first to the final beats, with a wide spectrum of originals and cover tunes to please a whole audience, the series website said.

Dylan Perrillo Orchestra

The Dylan Perrillo Orchestra will close the series on Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.

The orchestra is a colorful ensemble of young musicians who have come together from all corners of the Capital Region to honor the roots of jazz.

The 12-piece group sounds like a big band straight out of the 1920s, yet handles jazz classics with a freshness that makes the listener believe they just wrote this material yesterday.

Dylan Perrillo graduated from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

The rain location for the performances will be the United Methodist Church, 26 Main St.

The series is supported by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council, with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program.
