Potsdam Youth Basketball announces sign-up dates

POTSDAM -- With basketball season just around the corner, the Potsdam Youth Basketball Association (PYBA) is gearing up for another season with signups 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 in the lobby of A.A. Kingston Middle School, Lawrence Avenue.

All local boys and girls who are enrolled in grades K- 6 with an interest in basketball are eligible for the program; no prior experience is necessary. Program costs vary by grade. For children entering grades 2-6, the cost is $45 for the first player and $20 for all additional players in the same family ($75 maximum per family). Grade K & 1 cost is $25 per child (Saturday morning practices only from Oct. 23-Dec. 4).

Mail-in registration is also available. Wednesday, Oct. 16t is the last day for registering a child. Please send applications to PYBA, P.O. Box 96, Potsdam, NY 13676.

A mandatory meeting for parents with children enrolled in the program will be held during the first practice at each groups regular time.

Practices start the week of Oct. 18 and run through December. The “PYBA Saturday Morning League,” open to all local 5th & 6th grade boys’ and girls’ teams, with an emphasis on equal participation for all, tips off Saturday, Nov. 6.

The Potsdam Youth Basketball Association is also seeking individuals interested in coaching and assisting within the organization. Board members and volunteers are needed for the annual PYBA Shootout in December.

In existence for over 25 years, PYBA has served as the foundation for the traditionally strong Potsdam Central boys' and girls' varsity basketball programs. Teaching of the fundamental skills, learning team concepts, and enjoying the game of basketball are emphasized throughout the program.
