POTSDAM -- A Potsdam woman is hosting a kickball tournament in an effort to raise money for a volunteer surgical mission to Africa.
The fundraiser is slated for Saturday, Dec. 12, at 9 a.m. at the Potsdam Moose Lodge, 6907 State Highway 56.
Niki Perkins was born and raised in North New York, graduated from SUNY Canton and has worked as a registered nurse at Canton-Potsdam Hospital since 2010. She recently lived overseas in Guam and worked at a surgical day clinic. She was later volunteered on a surgical mission in the Philippine islands where she helped provide free care to over 200 people.
The cost is $100 per team. Teams can be 10 to 15 players and must be age 16 or older.
There will be prizes for first and last place as well as best team name. There will be live music, food, drinks, raffles, and a silent auction.
Perkins will spend two weeks in Africa as part of Mercy Ship Africa. She will spend her time volunteering as an operating room nurse and assist surgeons. Any excess funds will be donated to Marcy Ship Africa.
