POTSDAM -- North Country Matters host Donna Seymour examines the health-related issues of low wage workers and the services provided by St. Lawrence County Office of Aging with her guests on this week’s shows.

The first show, aired on WCKN on Mon. and Tues, Nov. 3 and 4 following Peak Moment TV, is with Jeanette Zoeckler, the Project Manager for the Occupational Health Clinical Center of the North Country in the Syracuse office.

The Occupational Health Clinical Center serves a 26-county area in New York State, including the North Country with a clinic in Canton. Up for discussion is the first phase of a major study on the health of low-wage workers undertaken by Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. This study was focused on the health effects of low wage jobs on workers in the Syracuse area, but it reflects trends nationally, as well as what is happening in the OHCC’s service area.

The second show, at 8 pm both nights, is with Andrea Montgomery, the new Office for the Aging Director for St. Lawrence County. According to 2013 US Census figures, 15% of the county population is 65 or older. The county office serves 22,000 seniors, age 60 or older.

Director Montgomery discuses key issues for seniors like housing, transportation, medical care, poverty, employment, safe housing, and caregiving. The county offers a robust menu of services for seniors that helps them stay in their own home, make medical appointments, and receive other essential and social services to enhance the quality of life to their specific needs.

On Sat. Nov. 1 and Sun., Nov. 2 you can watch all eight of the Conversations with Candidates filmed this fall. Those shows start at noon each weekend day.
