POTSDAM – A Summer Youth Rock Climbing Program will be held at the Leadership and Challenge Center in Maxcy Hall, SUNY Potsdam, in three-week sessions beginning Wednesday, June 16.
The program is designed to teach the importance of communication, trust, and patience through climbing. Focus will be placed on building skills and community in a fun and supportive environment. Children who are already experienced climbers will have the opportunity to experience more difficult and strenuous climbing sections according to their abilities.
Children aged 8 to 12 will learn about climbing technique, use of equipment, climbing safety, knots, and adventure games in two sessions. Session 1 will take place from June 16 to June 30 on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Session 2 will take place from July 19 to August 3 on Mondays from 3 to 5 p.m.
Two sessions will also be offered for children aged 13 to 17 where they will learn climbing technique, use of equipment, climbing safety, knots, Adventure Games, and belay certification. Session 1 will take place from June 17 to July 1 on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Session 2 will take place from July 20 to August 3 on Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Each session costs $50 per child.
