POTSDAM -- John and Sondra Castle of Potsdam have donated nine historic images from the estate of Emily V. Clarkson Moore to the Potsdam Museum.

Emily was the niece of Thomas S. Clarkson, for whom Clarkson University is named. The Castle's son, Christopher, graduated from Clarkson in 1990.

Emily V. Clarkson Moore, (1863-1946) belonged to the Society of Amateur Photographers. She exhibited her photographs in the Premiere Exposition d’Art Photographie in Paris in 1894. Her images were reviewed in the Photographic Times and Camera Notes in 1898. The Getty Museum in Los Angeles recently released a number of her images from their collection.

Four of the nine images given to the Potsdam Museum were taken by Moore. Several of these photographs will be on display at the Potsdam Sandstone Festival at Downtown Snell Hall Lawn Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

For more information about the Potsdam Sandstone Festival or the gift of photographic images, call the museum at 265-6910 or visit www.PotsdamPublicMuseum.org.
