Potsdam Public Library computer center to offer new blogging, Google classes

POTSDAM -- New classes will be offered at the Potsdam Public Library computer center, 2 Park St. Some of them have not been previously available and will be offered just once this spring. Registration is required by calling 265-7230.

“Accessing Your Files From Anywhere” will offer information on Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive to allow computer users to access files stored on their computers, such as photos and documents, from any computer that has internet access. The three programs will be compared to allow class participants to decide which would best serve their needs. Those who travel and don’t want to bring their own computers can use these convenient programs to have their files at their fingertips wherever they go, as long as three’s an available computer with internet access. This free class will be held on April 25 from 1 until 3 p.m.

“Introduction to Blogging” on April 28 from 1:30 until 3 p.m. will show participants how to become a blogger. They’ll sign up for blogger.com, learn to organize, arrange and customize their blogs, and learn to post, attach photos, and track how many visit their blogs. Class, as well as blogging is free.

On May 4, from 10 – 11:30 a.m., people who’ve purchased a new PC computer or who have upgraded their operating system to Windows 10 can attend a class to improve their familiarity with the new system. This class would also be useful for anyone considering the purchase of a new computer. Participants should bring their own laptop operating with Windows 10 if they now have one, but feel free to come if you just want to learn about Windows 10.

Also on May 4, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., learn to use Google Docs which allows a group of people to share the creation of a Word document. All those belonging to a group that is using this program can edit and comment on a document they’re creating, even though they’re not in the same location. Free class will cover what Google docs is, how to log in and use the program. Participants must have a Google account and be familiar with Google and MS Word.

LinkedIn is a business oriented social networking tool, and the free class on May 9 from 1 -2 PM will provide information to create and effectively use a LinkedIn account. This can help users find connections to recommended job candidates, industry experts and business partners. Topics covered will include how to connect with people, how to input your information and create a profile. Bring a laptop with a professional looking photo of yourself saved on it.

QuickBooks will be offered as a 3-session class on May 3, 4, and 5 from 5:30 – 8 PM on each night. The basics of company set up, customer set up and billing, vendor set up and paying bills, an overview of payroll set up, bank reconciliation and generating reports will all be covered. The class fee of $50 is due on or before April 22.
