Potsdam library offering meditation, game night, mandala, chess and many other events

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Public Library, 2 Park St., has the following free events and programs scheduled from Sept. 21-Oct. 4.

To register for any of the technology programs, which will be held at the Cleveland Computer Center in the library, contact bgordon@potsdamlibrary.org or 315-265-7230.

A silent meditatation will be held every Friday, from 10-10:15 a.m.

Game night is held every Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. Drop-in for part or all of this board game event for all ages. The library will supply some games, but participants can feel free to bring along their favorite.

Mandala Mondays are held every Monday from 5-8 p.m. Drop-in for part or all of this group coloring event for all ages. The library will supply colored pencils, crayons, pens, and pre-printed intricate coloring pages geared toward adults, featuring beautiful mandala patterns, flowers, architecture, etc.

PPL Papercraft – Origami will be held every Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. This is an activity for all ages. Origami paper will be provided, along with instructions and books about origami.

Wednesday Night Drop-in Chess Club meets every Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m. All experience levels are welcome.

Spanish story time will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10-11 a.m. Attendees can practice Spanish with their family while enjoying songs, stories and a craft with Señora Elena. The session is geared toward birth to pre-school, however, all ages are welcome. No experience necessary.

Preschool Story Time is held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

A Windows 10 workshop will be held at the library’s Cleveland Computer Center from 3-4:30 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of Windows 10 navigation. Laptops will be provided.

An Android tablets class will be held Sept. 25, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

A workshop on Google Drive will be held Sept. 25, from 3-4:30 p.m. Participants will learn to use free cloud storage on Google Drive, create documents, spreadsheets and slide presentations.

TroubleMakers Maker Workshop, for children in Grades 3-6, will be held Sept. 26, from 3-4:15 p.m. This session features hands-on projects for the afterschool crowd. All supplies are provided. Register week by week or for the entire session. Participants do not need to arrive at 3 p.m. to be able to do the projects. Registration is required and limited to 12 children. Improving Skills for New English Speakers will be offered Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Students will use online sources to improve listening skills and fluency.

The class iPad Basics will be offered Sept. 26, from 3-4:30 p.m.

Twitter will be detailed in a class held Sept. 26, from 5:30-7 p.m.

Gmail Basics will be covered in a class Sept. 27, from 10-11:30 a.m.

A course on Internet safety is offered on Oct. 2, from 3-4:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about hazards associated with internet use and how to avoid malware, viruses and more. Students should have some familiarity with web browsers and downloading and installing programs.

The class iPhone Basics is slated for Oct. 3, from 5:30-7 p.m.

A workshop on improving computer efficiency is scheduled for Oct. 4, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
