POTSDAM – Potsdam High School bands and choruses will perform 7:30 p.m. May 3 in the school auditorium.
The Treble Choir will perform “Bist du bei mir” by J.S. Bach; several folk songs including “Lake Isle of Innisfree” by Eleanor Daley and a set of Latin American folk songs, “Dos Cancioncitas;” and the American spiritual, “Soon Ah Will Be Done.”
The Concert Choir will feature a group of seniors in “The Heavens Are Telling” from “The Creation” by Haydn. The program will include Mozart’s “Lacrymosa” and a powerful setting of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
Canta Sera Chamber Singers will entertain with “Somewhere” from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
The Concert Band will present “Thus Spake Zarathustra” by Strauss, best know as the "fanfare" in the movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey." The band will also perform “Tournament” by Bulla and “In the Forest of the King” by Pierre LaPlante.
The Wind Ensemble will perform John Philip Sousa's regimental march, “The Gallant Seventh;” eerie and exciting “Night Dances” by Bruce Yurko; "March," the final movement of Gustav Holst's “First Suite in Eb” and Jager's thrilling four-movement piece, “Joan of Arc.”
The choirs will be directed by Tammara Madeja and student teacher Yingyu He. The bands will be conducted by Theresa Witmer and student teacher Kylier Stenger.
Admission is free, and the public is invited.
