POTSDAM -- “Fiddler on the Roof” will be presented by the Potsdam High School Drama Club on Friday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 12, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

The performances take place in the high school auditorium.

Music is by Jerry Brock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and the story is by Joseph Stein.

Set in 1905, the story takes place in anatevka, a small Jewish village in Russia. The musical tells the classic story of Tevya, a Jewish dairyman, as he struggles to hold onto his faith and traditions in a changing world.

When his eldest daughter, Tzeitel, begs him to let her marry a poor tailor rather than the middle-aged butcher that he has already chosen for her, Tevye must choose between his own daughter's happiness and those beloved traditions that keep the outside world at bay. Meanwhile, there are other forces at work in Anatevka, dangerous forces, which threaten to destroy the very life he is trying to preserve. Fiddler on the Roof deals with serious issues such as persecution, poverty, and the struggle to hold on to one's beliefs in the midst of a hostile and chaotic environment.

Cast: Dan Chichester as Tevye the Dairyman, Sammie Frick as Golde (Tevy’s wife); daughters include Cristy Stoian as Tzeitel, Claire Maciel as Hodel, Zoe Loveless as Chava, Izzy Pecora as Shprintze and Alison Ettinger-Delong as Bielke.

More cast members are Dimitri Damon as Mendel the rabbi’s son, David Timmerma as Avrahm the bookseller, MJ Plastino as Nachum the beggar, Sarah Miller and Delaney Normile play Grandma Tzeitel (Golde’s dead grandmother who returns in spirit form), Katherine Blanchard as Fruma-Sara (Lazar Wolf’s dead wife who returns in spirit form) and Mark Melman as Constable a local Russian authority.

Also performing in the musical are Jacques Kuno as Fyedka a non-Jewish Russian who becomes Chava’s husband, Delaney Normile as Shandel (Motel and Tailor’s mother), Jillian Todd as a fiddler, Chris Brooks as Yussell a village, Hannah Holt as Bluma as village and Taylor Murray as Mirala a village and violinist.
