POTSDAM -- The third Thursday tastings will continue at the Potsdam Food Co-op, 24 Elm St., July 17 with the introduction of Beemster aged, the co-op’s featured cheese of the month.
This is the signature Dutch cheese that has been made in the Netherlands for over a century.
The artisan cheese, produced by a farmer’s co-op, gets its unique taste from the thick grasses of the Beemster polder, an area of marshes and bogs in northern Holland that was drained in 1612 and converted into pastures.
The cheese has a caramel color and complex nutty/butterscotch taste that comes from being naturally aged for 18 months. Sample some from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
