POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Farmers’ Market is hosting the Market Book Safari, a summer-long, free book giveaway for young readers.
Children can visit the Potsdam Farmers’ Market, which runs Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Ives Park and “go on safari.” They can search for free books hidden at vendor booths. Books will be wrapped in brown paper. They are for all ages, ranging from early reader to middle school-level. Each book has been registered with BookCrossing.com, a website service that tracks books worldwide. When a child finds a book at the market, they are encouraged to read the book and then leave it somewhere for another reader to find it. Participators can use the free wireless internet service at the Potsdam Public Library to follow where the books go.
The books were donated by the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs in Potsdam.
The Potsdam Public Library is also in on the project. Librarian Sarah Sachs handpicked the collection.
