POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Farmers' Market will host “Fall Fest featuring activities for the whole family on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., behind the municipal lot near Ives' Park.
The market manager’s booth will hand out fall recipes cards and small pumpkins for children. There will also be a “guess the weight of a big pumpkin”; the winning guess gets a gift certificate to the winter market.
All are welcome to try their hand at “cabbage bowling”, a veggie version of the original game. Volunteer groups from SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University will also offer games and healthy Halloween tips. Shoppers can improve their hula-hooping skills with the assistance of Hula Hoop instructor.
“We wanted to finish the outdoor market with a bang!” says Laura Popielski, market manager. The market will move indoors to the Cheel Arena on Clarkson campus the following week.
Live music by Andy Van Dyune and Geoff Hayton, also known as King Kong, will serenade shoppers as they browse the booths of local producers offering fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, wines, teas, bakery goods, herbs, maple syrup, honey, and unique crafts of all kinds.
Produce in season includes: apples, beans, beets, raspberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, grapes, herbs, kale, lettuce, melons, onions, pears, peppers, plums, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, spinach, squash, and Swiss chard.
The market accepts debit and EBT cards for payment. The free $2 checks incentive for EBT users continues until mid-November.
